Welcome to a UBI House breakfast & seminar at Tvistevägen 48, in conference room "Skogen". UBI offers breakfast from 8.15, and the seminar starts at 8.30.
Speaker: Martin Rosvall, IceLab
Seminar: ”How to build a strong multidisciplinary research environment"
About: How can life stay healthy when the world gets tough? How do bacteria beat antibiotics, crops endure drought, and ecosystems cope with climate change?
At IceLab, researchers from molecular biology, plant physiology, ecology, physics, mathematics, and computing science study these questions together. We combine experiments, network inference, and dynamical modeling to explore how living systems respond to stress.
In this talk, Martin Rosvall shares how IceLab grew from a small initiative in 2010 into a research environment with PhD and postdoc programs, new principal investigators, and national funding.
He focuses on what makes it work in practice: a clear shared question, a few simple formats that turn half-formed ideas into funded projects (lunch pitches, hackathons, postdoc and graduate programs), and a culture built on psychological safety and "Yes, and …”.
Registration deadline (for breakfast): October 16.
